Emmanuel Frayer can be described as hard working, talented, and consistent while making one music hit after another. He was five years old when he first picked up a set of drumsticks and only nine when he started playing the piano. Since those early formative years, music has been his calling and it has continued to be the force that drives him even today.
The Tacoma, Washington born singer/songwriter/musician has never strayed away from his love of music or from his desire to make songs that not only move your feet, but the heart and soul as well. "I've always had the love and the passion for music," he says. "God gave me the gift and I just took it and ran with it." Emmanuel was so determined to indulge his creative urges while attending Pierce Community College in Lakewood, Washington, that he decided to take a hiatus from school to devote more time to his craft. Even though he abandoned his academic endeavors at school, he continued to passionately pursue and gain knowledge on the ins and outs of the music business. "Right after I left college, I made the decision that I was going to really pursue music full time," he explains. " I took my passion for school and transferred it to music. I read a lot of books about the music business and I decided to take it seriously, studying the game and really working on perfecting my craft."
While Emmanuel delivers R&B the way many of his icons did back in the day – raw, real and honest – he is quick to point out that his music is one of a kind. "I always prayed that I would have my own sound and be my own unique artist," he says. And it looks like his prayers – and the prayers of music lovers everywhere – have been answered. His artistry demonstrates that you can have your own personally developed sound and still touch the realms of any musical genre you pursue. Emmanuel displays the smoothness of an R&B artist, the energy of a rock star, and the spirituality of a gospel singer, mixed with the grit and lyrical content of a rapper. Emmanuel is certainly an artist that can flow comfortably between any of these genres and he still can’t be put into a “box”.
